Mystery Midgets and Other Bizarre Beings

Visitations from the dead and mysterious beings from other worlds are not that uncommon at all in any part of West Virginia. Virtually the whole state of West Virginia has been classified by investigators of paranormal events and bizarre beings as a window, meaning an area in which incomprehensible creatures and events tend to visit and recur time after time, year to year, even century to century.

There are many window areas throughout the world, both large and small, famous and not, such as the Bermuda Triangle or Stonehenge or the Valley of the Kings, where due to some anomaly of nature, energies, both spiritual and natural, focus and flow, and make that vortex of the inexplicable both holy and demonic and tear that curtain between our own and other worlds.

In the haunted hills of West Virginia there are demons and dark angels, fallen and horny, and freakish forces and dream denizens of unseen worlds or realms or unfathomed dimensions that surround us. They shape the very lives of West Virginians, perhaps even controlling West Virginians by molding their beliefs and manipulating their emotions until more than a few lift up serpents to pray for salvation and relief and deliverance into a new spiritual geography.

The big debate that rages in West Virginia is whether the frequent visitors from the beyond are, indeed, actually angels or aliens, and if angels, are they holy or fallen, and if aliens, where are they from and what do they want, besides rustling livestock for ritual mutilation and abducting countless West Virginians in order to examine them head to toe and frequently have other-worldly sex, especially if they are young, juicy majorettes and or homecoming queens.

My great-uncle George R. Rairden (1891-1972) served thirteen terms as a Republican member of the State House of Delegates from Mason County, one of the longest legislative service records in the history of the state, being elected in the years 1926, 1928, 1930, 1932, 1934, 1938, 1940, 1942, 1944, 1948, 1950, 1952, and 1958. As a legislator he was a crusader for morality in government and temperance. He introduced legislation and zealously fought for laws to curb gambling, liquor, and fornication that was merely for the sake of fun. Always advocating law enforcement, he introduced legislation to create the office of state prosecuting attorney. He also took pride in his successful effort in obtaining a property tax exemption for elderly persons receiving welfare assistance. While always for economy in government, he faithfully lent his full efforts toward adequate appropriations for education and schools.

In 1927, my uncle sponsored a bill that made June 20 West Virginia Day and a legal holiday. In 1958, he sponsored a bill that proclaimed that the frequent unearthly and uninvited visitors to the Mountain State were fallen angels doing the demonic business of Baal, and each one was to be considered by law enforcement officials as persona non grata and arrested upon sight on felony charges of incitement to sin and confusion. The bill failed by six votes.
